MS sells more than 1m Zunes

Microsoft has beaten its goal of shipping over a million Zune digital music players by June, says China View.

The Zune has a 10% market share in the hard-disk-based music player category, said Robbie Bach, president of Microsoft's Entertainment and Devices Division.

"It's a good start. It's not an overwhelming start. I'm not going to pretend it's some gigantic move."

SED TV launch delayed

Japanese hi-tech giants Canon and Toshiba have decided to postpone the introduction of a new type of flat television panel that is mired in legal wrangling, reports iafrica.com.

SED television sets were due to be introduced in Japan in the fourth quarter of 2007. No new launch date was given.

"Reasons for the postponement include prolonged litigation currently under way in the US and efforts to establish mass-production technology aimed at realising further cost reductions," said a Canon statement.

The Sims makes it to the movies

Electronic Arts (EA) has sold the movie rights for The Sims to 20th Century Fox, reports Techtree.com.

The best-selling PC game is one of EA's biggest franchises, and includes sequels and expansions such as The Sims: House Party and The Sims: Vacation. The franchise has reportedly sold nearly 85 million copies since the original game was released seven years ago.

A popular simulation game, The Sims puts players in charge of simulated people, helping them make friends, find satisfying jobs, and buy household items in order to stay happy.

Nokia to go 3G in China

The world's top cellphone maker Nokia expects to start selling phones for China's 3G mobile technology TD-SCDMA in the first half of next year, when the network is up and running, reports Reuters.

"Currently, we see there will be market need from the first half of 2008. Hence, we will have some kind of offering on the market," said Thomas Jonsson, Nokia's spokesman in China.

Beijing, earlier this year, extended pre-commercial testing of its home-grown TD-SCDMA standard to 10 cities from the original five.
