Pentax releases new cameras

Pentax has announced two lightweight compact digital cameras, the Optio M40 and the Optio E40, reports dcviews.

The Optio E40 is an entry-level 8 megapixel camera designed for beginner photographers. The Optio M40, also with 8 megapixels, offers slightly more sophisticated features. Both cameras boast face recognition technology and digital shake reduction.

The face recognition function automatically detects and focuses on faces, regardless of where the people appear in the frame. The function also features optimal exposure settings.

Canon introduces storage device

Canon has just introduced a new storage media device called M80, reports Mobilewhack.

The camera has 80GB of storage capacity, a high resolution 3.7-inch screen and can play Mpeg-2/4 and MP3 Files. The M80 supports a number of different memory cards that can be directly plugged into it, such as SD/SDHC/MMC memory cards and CF/Microdrive cards.

"As well as extending professional photographer back-up and storage capacity, there is no doubt the units will appeal to amateur photographers looking for more flexible, enjoyable and portable alternatives to the traditional photo album," says Mogen Jensen, head of Canon Consumer Imaging Europe.

Hasselblad upgrades FlexColor software

FlexColor, Hasselblad's image capture and processing software, has just been updated, reports Digitalcamera Info.

The new version 4.7 has digital lens correction and improved sharpness and focusing with handheld photography. The ultra-focus functionality has been improved and expanded to correct for the optical effects of light passing through cover glass and filter glass in front of the CCD sensor.

This upgraded FlexColor software now allows for the firmware of any H-camera body or HxD camera body to be automatically updated, through the FireWire Connection using FlexColor as the interface.
