SunGard to buy Strohl Systems

SunGard's disaster recovery business got a boost last week when it announced plans to buy Strohl Systems, a provider of business continuity planning (BCP) software and services, says IT Jungle.

Strohl Systems has a sizable Power Systems (formerly System i) business, which is one of the areas that SunGard targets with its DR and hot site services.

In addition to providing BCP services, Strohl develops several BCP software products, including continuity planning software, a business impact and risk assessment tool, a notification solution and a virtual emergency operations centre tool.

Nominations for continuity award open

Nominations for the second Asia Business Continuity Awards are now being taken, states Continuity Central.

The 2nd ABCA will be held in October, in conjunction with the 8th Annual Business Continuity Management Conference 2008.

Endorsed by the Business Continuity Institute, the Asia Business Continuity Awards aim to recognise individuals and organisations that have made prominent contributions to the growth and development of the business continuity industry in the region.

HP's Wilson serves on panel

According to Continuity Central, Belinda Wilson has agreed to serve on The Business Continuity Journal's peer review panel.

The Business Continuity Journal is the peer-reviewed professional journal for the BC and DR sector. Every paper published is reviewed and approved by a panel of industry experts, a process which will now be assisted by Wilson.

Wilson is executive director of Business Continuity and Recovery Services for Hewlett-Packard and has over 20 years of expertise in the business continuity industry.
