Phillipine schools get Internet

To ensure that schoolchildren get quality education, the Philippine Department of Education has signed an agreement with a major telecommunications company aimed at expanding access in public schools in selected areas in the country, states Sunstar.

Education Secretary Jesli Lapus said the agreement with Smart Communications and the Philippine Business for Social Progress would pave the way for the expansion of the department's "Smart Schools" programme to include an additional 30 public high schools and a similar number of elementary schools this year.

The telecommunications company has already constructed or upgraded computer laboratories into Smart Teachers Learning Resource Centers and provides free Internet connection for one year.

Sennheiser employees create SECares

Even with the rising cost of gasoline, food, and other necessities, Sennheiser Electronic Corporation (SEC) employees created a smart charity programme entitled SECares, allowing their fellow co-workers to support good causes, says Zip06.

Sennheiser, a Germany-based manufacturer of high-quality microphone and headphone solutions, maintains US headquarters in Old Lyme.

This voluntary programme provides an easy way for its approximately 130 employees to contribute any monetary amount, large or small, to two well-known charities throughout the year.
