DST hosts tech expo

Johannesburg, 09 Sep 2008

The Department of Science and Technology (DST) will host the third biennial International Science, Innovation and Technology Exhibition (Insite), from 14 to 17 September, at the Sandton Convention Centre.

Launched in 2004, the exhibition focuses on the youth, with the aim of promoting careers in science, innovation and technology.

This year, the event is themed: "The role science plays in accelerating knowledge economy growth - contrasts between developed and emerging economies."

The aim is to provide Insite 2008 visitors and exhibitors with an opportunity to view and compare regional and international science and technology expertise, as well as to participate in a number of concurrent events, such as public lectures and keynote presentations.

Insite drew 5 889 and 6 298 visitors and exhibitors in 2004 and 2006, respectively, from over 50 countries.

The event will this year host exhibitors from DST-supported science councils, programmes, agencies and projects, African and Nepad-related projects and programmes, large South African companies and parastatals, and various small and medium enterprises.
