Sony releases TVs with RFID

Sony has introduced a new line of LCD high-definition televisions aimed at the Japanese market, with the TVs not likely coming to North America or Europe, says CD Freaks.com

The Sony TVs will have an electronic money card reader that can be used by TV owners to order pay-per-view content if the TV is connected to the Internet.

Although using RFID technology is popular in Japan, especially the use off electronic money, it hasn't caught on quickly in the US.

RCG unveils RFID solutions

RCG, a company that supplies biometric and RFID products and services mainly to Asia-Pacific markets, has released its RFID technology into the financial services sector, states Small Cap News.

The company recently won contracts to supply and implement three technology systems to improve on-site bank security and cashbox security, and to enhance customer experience for two major Chinese banks, namely the China Construction Bank and Bank of China.

The contracts are part of RCG's growing portfolio of projects in Asia-Pacific and the Middle East, which already cover the healthcare, transport, property, media, education, and entertainment industries.

Vermont issues RFID drivers licences

Vermont has become the third US state to begin issuing enhanced drivers licences with radio frequency tags that also serve as official identification cards at US border crossing points, says Federal Computer Week.

The enhanced driver's licences have embedded RFID chips that can be scanned at a distance of 20 to 30 feet and emit a reference number that must be checked against a database to obtain personal information.

The enhanced licences and other identification cards with RFID are valuable in easing the processing of people and traffic at the borders.
