HP has unveiled a new collaboration solution, which it terms a 'professional-quality visual collaboration and conferencing solution' that connects groups of four or less people from anywhere around the world in real-time, straight from their desktop.
The solution allows the users to share 3D images concurrently, with 30fps video and voice across a standard PCIPC network connection, all in real-time.
Says Jeff Wood, director of worldwide workstation marketing for the HP personal workstation business: “We have combined our remote graphics software with our 'Halo' telepresence solution to create SkyRoom. It brings teleconferencing down to the desktop level, and its high fidelity is what sets it apart from other teleconferencing solutions.”
HP SkyRoom is currently in beta testing with customers around the world, says Eric Jeanmougin, workstation business unit manager for HP PSG, EMEA. He believes it will not be long till the solution is available to everyone. “SkyRoom will work on any system and is not locked into HP technology only.”
Jeanmougin says no price point has been discussed, and this will only be revealed at the time of going on sale. VP of HP's workstation global business unit, Jim Zafarana, notes that SkyRoom's price will be around the 1% mark of current travelling costs.
