Red Hat on Verizon's cloud

Red Hat says its operating system software has been deployed in a cloud computing offering introduced by Verizon Business, reports Triangle Business Journal.

The Raleigh company's Enterprise Linux application is one of two platforms on which Verizon's computing-as-a service, or CaaS, solution will run. Microsoft Windows is the other system.

Many technology companies are betting on the promise of cloud computing, in which software is loaded on servers that can be accessed online, or “in the clouds”.

OSS simplifies mobile programs

Sun Microsystems has partnered with Orange, the Vodafone Group and Sony Ericsson Mobile Communications, in an endeavour to enable software developers deliver Java programs on a mobile phone, says Channel Times.

The vendor unveiled the open source testing tool at its annual JavaOne developer conference in San Francisco.

A software developer has to test the program many times before it reaches the consumer. These tests are very expensive, and a single test can cost about $200. The price may escalate depending on the program.

Alfresco, EnterpriseDB partner

Alfresco Software, a provider of open source enterprise content management solutions, and EnterpriseDB, an enterprise open source database company, have signed a partnership under which Alfresco will support Alfresco Enterprise for use with EnterpriseDB's Postgres Plus and EnterpriseDB's Postgres Plus Advanced Server, states TMCnet.

Under the terms of the partnership, the companies will provide joint customers with coordinated, high quality support and professional services.

Alfresco is an open source alternative for enterprise content management and the choice of the global 5 000 with customers such as FedEx, Fox Broadcasting and Virgin Mobile.
