Embarcadero Job Scheduler 3.1 broadens enterprise functionality, IBM DB2 support

Job Scheduler 3.1 adds new features for IT professionals working in IBM DB2 and cross-platform enterprise environments

Johannesburg, 02 Mar 2004

Embarcadero Technologies, a leading provider of application and data lifecycle management solutions, has announced expanded functionality for job scheduling across distributed, cross-platform enterprise environments with the general availability of Embarcadero Job Scheduler 3.1.

Job Scheduler 3.1 extends support for IBM DB2 environments, allowing database administrators to leverage IBM DB2 for Windows/Unix/Linux as a repository for the product`s infrastructure. This new version also includes utilities that simplify the migration of existing Cron jobs from Unix and Linux platforms, the ability to manually restart individual jobs in sequenced job chains, and management of scheduled tasks with an easy-to-use visual Job Set Editor.

"Data professionals in IBM DB2 environments can now leverage their databases as repositories on the backend so they can worry less about job scheduling and concentrate more on complex data operations," said Alan Raubenheimer, CEO of Embarcadero Africa, which represents Embarcadero`s interests in Africa.

"Job Scheduler 3.1 addresses stringent customer requirements for cross-platform job scheduling support that is highly scalable, secure, and cost-effective. By streamlining and consolidating tasks, data administrators, database managers, and systems administrators can optimise their limited resources and reduce system downtime."

Designed for IT professionals responsible for database maintenance in complex cross-platform enterprise environments, Embarcadero Job Scheduler helps streamline and automate data management, database maintenance, and scheduling of routine tasks. Job Scheduler 3.1`s expanded functionality streamlines and consolidates job scheduling across all major database platforms and operating systems, helping organisations significantly increase productivity, lower costs, and improve the availability of business-critical data. Embarcadero Job Scheduler 3.1 supports IBM DB2 for Windows/Unix/Linux 7.x and 8.x, ORACLE, Microsoft SQL Server, and Sybase databases and IBM AIX, HP-UX, Sun Solaris, Linux, Windows NT, Windows 2000, Windows 2003 and Windows XP operating systems.

"We need to run routine maintenance jobs in a complicated cross-platform environment, and Job Scheduler simplifies this task and boosts our productivity," said Andy Cook, systems engineer for Advanced Technical Solutions, Inc of Acton, MA. "We have both Unix and Windows servers running Sybase and SQL Server databases. Embarcadero Job Scheduler helps us set dependencies between the servers, saving us time and helping us ensure system performance."

Key features of Embarcadero Job Scheduler 3.1:

* Support for IBM DB2 Windows/Unix/Linux: Enables DBAs to use IBM DB2 Windows/Unix/Linux 7.x and 8.x as a back-end repository for Job Scheduler, providing an easy-to-use, efficient and scalable solution for DB2 environments.

* New Unix and Linux Import Wizard Utility: Streamlines and consolidates localized job scheduling operations on Unix and Linux machines with those running SQL and Windows batch operations, effectively extending Job Scheduler`s use throughout the enterprise. The new utility eliminates reliance on the difficult-to-use Unix and Linux Cron utility and provides a painless migration experience.

* New manual re-start job restart feature: Resume a job from any point in a series of scheduled jobs.

* Visual Job Set Editor: Plan and modify job flows with an improved Job Set Editor to easily construct and visualize complex job flows.
