Enterprise architecture risks failure

Enterprise architecture initiatives risk failure if they are unable to demonstrate value to businesses, Gartner has predicted, according to Computer Weekly.

By 2010, 40% of existing enterprise architecture programmes will be stopped because of poor execution, according to the analyst firm.

Richard Buchanan, managing VP at Gartner, said: "When companies fail, it is because they do not have the strong leadership necessary to bring the enterprise architecture programme together as an integrated portfolio, or the right skills to do the strategic analysis."

Software AG refreshes products

Software AG has added new features for the first time to its webMethods Infravio X-Registry since the acquisition, in order to simplify life cycle management of Web services. It has begun seeding features from its CentraSite Enterprise repository, reports CBR Online.

The new product, branded CentraSite Governance Edition, adds wizards for helping users create new service assets, and for developing what Software AG calls "active policies".

In conjunction with the new wizard-driven processes is a new Ajax-based rich Web user interface that will also be compatible with the companion CentraSite Enterprise product.

Sun offers free beta exams

Sun Microsystems recently announced free "beta" exams for a new version of its Sun Certified Enterprise Architect certification, according to Cert Cities.

The SCEA version 5 beta will take place in three parts: a multiple-choice exam, a written assignment covering design principles, architecture technologies and other topics, and a short essay.

The certification is designed for architects with at least five years' experience. Those who pass all three parts of the beta will be awarded the new certification.
