Companies look to virtualisation

IT managers are looking at virtualisation as a tool for addressing business continuity, high availability, and disaster recovery, according to a recent study by Aberdeen Group, reports DABCC.

The report, entitled "Are You Protected? Virtualisation and Business Continuity" shows about 50% of the surveyed organisations have virtualisation deployments supporting business continuity strategies.

About 77% of the 320 companies surveyed either have deployed or plan to evaluate some virtualisation within environments. Specifically, 53% have deployed server virtualisation, and 24% have plans to adopt it within the 12 months.

GIS conference discusses continuity

Government, utility, and private sector professionals are invited to attend the 2007 ESRI Homeland Security GIS Summit, from 5 to 7 November in Denver, according to CRM Marketplace.

As the only geospatial conference dedicated to homeland security, this event provides essential personnel with an opportunity to learn how geographic information system (GIS) technology provides the geographic advantage with customised solutions for their industry.

Throughout the conference, attendees will see how GIS improves public protection and business continuity.

Sri Lanka Telecom picks EMC

Sri Lanka Telecom (SLT) has implemented EMC storage and services to consolidate and manage the vast amount of customer information generated by its operations, according to Moneycontrol India.

EMC`s information management and storage solutions will also provide business continuity to enable non-disruptive operations for SLT. This announcement comes soon after EMC launched its operations in Sri Lanka in August last year.

In order to meet its growing information needs, SLT opted for EMC`s Symmetrix DMX-3, a high-performance storage area network system to consolidate information across its organisation and recover critical information in case of disaster.
