According to research done on behalf of HP, more than one-third of CIOs believe that in two to five years, their data centres will not be able to cope with the demand for business servers and applications.
HP says the top five issues for data centres are energy efficiency, automation, virtualisation, consolidation and business continuity. At the Technology@Work conference in Barcelona, the company explained it designed its new product range with these issues in mind.
"Today, customers are facing multiple challenges - the explosion of data, a growing mobile workforce and the need for access to real-time information," said Oliver Fortuin, GM, Technology Solutions Group, HP South Africa.
New services in the HP Data Centre Services portfolio are:
* HP Critical Facilities Services: HP is expanding its offering with three new critical facilities services focused on consulting, design and assurance.
* HP Data Centre Consolidation Services: New data centre consolidation services include design, transition and support services.
* HP Data Centre Virtualisation Services: The new virtualisation offerings include virtualisation across servers, storage, networks and applications.
New server
According to the company, the Data Centre Services includes a HP ProLiant DL785 G5 Server, which is an eight-socket x86 server based on Quad-Core AMD Opteron processor technology.
The new software for this server includes:
* HP Insight Dynamics - VSE: Analyses and optimises x86 physical and virtual resources in the same way and will be available in the second calendar quarter of 2008.
* HP Operations Orchestration Enhancements: This automation provides guided workflows to orchestrate processes across clients, applications, servers, networks, and storage to streamline error-prone, manual processes.
Another offering mentioned at the conference is the HP Adaptive Infrastructure as a Service (AIaaS). HP AIaaS offers customers access to HP owned and managed data centres that deliver an optimised platform for Microsoft Exchange, SAP, and other critical business applications.
