Wireless tech report unveiled

Research and Markets has added the "Wireless Technology Trends Report 2008" report to its offering, says Market Watch.

This new study is on wireless technology trends, and forecasts status and potential of WiMax, ZigBee, Ultrawideband, and Bluetooth.

Pervasive uses for each technology are driven by rapidly increasing consumer demand for wireless connectivity.

China behind on 3G

The head of China Mobile, the world's largest mobile phone group, said the country's home-grown third generation mobile technology was "a few years behind" other international standards because of problems with handsets, says FT.com.

The news is a blow because China Mobile is expected to build its future 3G services on the TD-SCDMA standard, which is being developed in China.

The group's rivals are expected to adopt the European WCDMA and US's CDMA2000 3G standards.

MBNL appoints tech partner

Mobile Broadband Network (MBNL), the network collaboration joint venture between T-Mobile UK and 3 UK, has selected Nokia Siemens Networks as technology partner for 3G network integration, says Tech Whack.

Nokia Siemens Networks will provide a network consolidation solution, bringing environmental benefits and cost savings to the operators and improvements for customers.

Nokia Siemens Networks has been selected as the 3G radio network infrastructure supplier for the consolidation of the two operators' 3G radio access network infrastructure under MBNL. In the process it has created the UK's most extensive 3G network, providing near complete population coverage by the end of 2009.
