The JSE-listed Control Instruments (CI) Group has acquired 24% of The E-mail Corporation for R2 million. The deal includes an option for CI to increase its stake further.

CI is unwilling to disclose how much more of The E-mail Corporation the deal allows it to purchase, saying the terms of the contract are confidential.

The deal will bring financial and technical support for The E-mail Corporation and allow CI access to the corporation`s business operations. CI says it will capitalise on the synergy between the companies to further its business strategy of focusing on electronics, IT and communications as its core operations.

"The E-mail Corporation is complementary to our wholly-owned subsidiary Data Pro Services, which is one of the country`s leading providers of corporate Internet solutions, including Web hosting and e-commerce," says Richard Friedman, MD of CI.

The E-mail Corporation provides e-mail security and management, as well as list serving and direct e-mail marketing. It is also the South African distributor for Worldtalk software.

Michael Wright, the corporation`s MD, says that a person`s main experience with the Internet in SA is through e-mail and most of this is corporate in nature. He adds that The E-mail Corporation is aiming to play a significant role in facilitating the use of this mail in both the corporate and domestic spheres.

"E-mail is becoming the standard for both internal and external corporate communication and is vital to the way modern companies do business," says Wright.
