Vox Telecom`s proposed acquisition of Absa Internet Access (AIA) has received the go-ahead from the Competition Commission.
The company will now take over AIA`s non-banking assets and 68 000 active customers with immediate effect. These will be integrated into Vox Telecom`s consumer Internet service provider (ISP), @lantic Internet Services.
Says Vox Telecom CEO Douglas Reed: "The combination of SA`s third- and fourth-largest consumer ISPs will create a strong competitor to the market leaders. @lantic will now become the third largest consumer ISP in SA, with 13% market share."
Reed adds that Absa`s long-standing provision of cost-effective ISP services for clients has prepared the customer base for new offerings.
"Absa played a pivotal role in getting thousands of people onto the Internet for the first time. Many of them are now ready to move on to our more specialised services. These include options such as a pay-as-you-go dial-up connection, a Vox ADSL phone, three specialised ADSL offerings and a full range of wireless Internet offerings," he explains.
Vox Telecom expects the integration to go smoothly with few, if any, changes for customers.
