South Africa's Competition Tribunal has given the Saudi Telecom Company (STC), Oger Telecom deal its blessing.

The deal, which was heard by the authority earlier this month, sees STC acquire joint control of Oger Telecom for a net price of $2.56 billion.

As Oger Telecom has a stake in local cellular operator Cell C, the transaction had to be approved by local authorities.

Following the Competition Commission's approval, the Tribunal gave the acquisition its unconditional consent.
