TMC300 series: Acer`s perfect digital writing pad

Johannesburg, 09 Mar 2004

Acer`s new TravelMate C300 convertible Tablet PC (TMC300) offers users all-day battery life, a swivel 14.1-inch XGA LCD screen, a full size keyboard, integrated gigabit LAN networking functionality and a host of connectivity options to suit power users` needs out of the box.

"The size, performance and features of the TMC300 will be attractive to a broad set of customers looking to take advantage of the latest mobile wireless technology," says Gary De Menezes, channel director at Acer.

The unit can be used either in conventional `notebook mode` with keyboard, or in `tablet mode` with a provided stylus. The design combines today`s most advanced wireless solution - Intel Centrino mobile technology, including an Intel Pentium M ultra-low voltage processor offering up to 1.7GHz clock speed - with related chipsets and 802.11b wireless network functions that have been optimised, tested and validated to work together.

The Intel Centrino mobile technology also includes features to extend battery life and allows a thinner and lighter design.

"The Acer TravelMate has been designed for users looking to integrated the advantages of convertible Tablet PCs, including switching between typing on the keyboard and writing directly on the screen with the included EMR pen, while maintaining a commonly found form factor," says De Menezes.

The TMC300 incorporates up to a 60GB ATA/100 removable hard drive and the hot-swappable AcerMedia bay. The latter enables data access on a variety of media, including a DVD/CD-RW combo drive or a DVD-Dual drive, and the insertion of a second battery for a maximum eight-hour battery life.

Preloaded with Microsoft Windows XP Tablet PC Edition operating system and weighing just 6.2 pounds, the TravelMate C300 provides the freedom and flexibility mobile users enjoy from full-sized notebook systems.

The TMC300 ships with 512MB memory and offers up to 2GB of DDR333 SDRAM, as well as an Intel integrated graphics chipset for outstanding multimedia performance. It offers two USB 2.0 ports, an IEE 1394 port, 10/100 LAN connection and a 56K V.92 modem.

The TMC300 boasts several software enhancements. The on-screen `Soft Button` offers easy, centralised access to applications, wireless and modem connections, volume controls and screen rotation via an intuitive interface.

An integrated Smart Vision light sensor automatically adjusts screen brightness to one of four default settings based on available ambient light, thereby allowing the LCD to be easily readable in sunny environments. Screen brightness can also be adjusted via hotkeys in notebook mode or by using the Acer Soft button functionality while in Tablet mode.

Several versatile applications that take advantage of the sophisticated inking capabilities of a Tablet PC will be pre-installed on the new Acer TMC300, including: Alias SketchBook Pro - to transform the tablet PC into a digital sketchbook; Zinio Reader - for a fully-realised digital magazine; and Franklink Covey TabletPlanner - to maximise the power of the tablet PC with its organise and schedule management features.

Security and safety features have also been enhanced with Acer`s patented Disk Anti ShockProtection and smart card security that have both data and hardware integrity.
