Bill Gates to open WinHEC

Microsoft`s three-day Windows hardware engineering conference (WinHEC) begins in Seattle today with a keynote address by chairman and chief software architect Bill Gates.

The annual WinHEC event focuses on designing hardware and drivers for computers that run Microsoft Windows.

In his opening keynote address, Gates is expected to focus on how the introduction of 64-bit and multicore computing will affect the hardware industry as well as discuss the expected wave of innovation.

Gates is also expected to provide a view into how Microsoft plans to make the next release of Windows, code-named Longhorn, reliable and secure.

WinHEC 2005 will feature the official launch event for Windows XP Professional x64 Edition and Windows Server 2003 x64 Editions as well as showcase future Windows-based hardware solutions and prototype systems.
