Dell`s notebook sales surpass desktops

More of Dell`s sales in retail stores are going to notebooks. Notebook sales surpassed those of desktops in December 2005 for the first time, according to current analysis.

Notebooks took up 50.9% of the sales during this holiday month while desktop PCs were the other 49.1%, reports Notebook Review.

These numbers do not include the all important direct sales of PCs, meaning every sale Dell makes, so what the true overall break out of desktop versus notebook sales is not known at the moment.

Pre-announced pricing sends Dell officials scrambling

The pricing and model names for Dell`s new dual-core laptop computers, as yet unannounced, were discovered on a Google search and posted to an online forum, sending Dell officials scrambling to get the products off the Internet, Web Pro News reports.

Google`s cache and a Dell FTP site that inadvertently made specifications available has since been removed, but not before CNet was able to determine pricing for the dual-core equipped at between $900 and $1 500.

Gary Price at SearchEngineWatch fixed the blame on Dell`s Web masters, and not the search engines: "Every Web-master who places content on publicly accessible servers should have a basic understanding of how Web crawlers work and that many large engines cache content."

Lenovo`s ThinkCentre E series targets SMEs

Lenovo has announced a line of desktop PCs designed specifically to meet the technology needs of small businesses.

The vendor is touting ease-of-use, affordability and reliability, with its ThinkCentre E50 tower and small desktop PCs.

Lenovo E Series desktops can help small companies grow by increasing productivity and minimising the dependence on external service and support, reports ameinfo.com.

Non-work desktop activity blocked

Oleansoft announced the release of an update version of Oleansoft Hidden Camera, a two-side system for remote desktop monitoring and control.

Hidden Camera v2.16 offers a software-based electronic surveillance system to monitor desktop activities across corporate networks.

Net Security reports that it is now possible to not only transmit messages to clients, but also block activities, which are not work-related.
