Sahara: 'Pimp my notebook'

Johannesburg, 23 Apr 2007

Sahara Computers, local supplier of IT and digital lifestyle products, has initiated a mobile and lifestyle campaign that will enable consumers to personalise the look and feel of its notebooks.

In keeping with its ongoing aggressive investment in - and contribution towards - the notebook space, Sahara now offers a range of custom-designed notebook 'skins' that are physically placed onto the covering, protecting the device.

These skins can be pre-selected and ordered as a bundled value-add, extra with any notebook unit.

"One of the main reasons behind the growth within the mobile and wireless space is individual experimentation and investment in digital lifestyle technology. This is reinforced through the ability to personalise this technology and make it an intricate part of everyday life. The ability to reflect personality and taste in devices definitely adds value and takes the digital experience another level higher," says Gary Naidoo, deputy MD of Sahara.

Sahara is positioned at the forefront of PC desktop supply, and is a recognised brand within local and international ICT sectors.

The company identified the digital lifestyle market as a key growth area some years ago, and immediately added relevant products to its existing portfolio, including notebooks, digital cameras and USB flash drives.

Sahara's existing notebook line includes the Sahara 11-inch Stylebook, Sahara 12-inch Widescreen Stylebook, and the Sahara 14-inch Durabook, among others. The line is continuously being extended to meet dynamic and diverse market requirements.

"We have applied constant attention to these requirements from various market segments in terms of mobility and notebook solutions," says Naidoo. "Our approach has been to incorporate units that appeal to these segments on various levels, including features and functionality that typify and define mobile computing. It was not long before the range of notebooks emerged as the company's flagship product offering," adds Naidoo.

"This latest campaign reinforces our drive into the market, and the value of our Sahara mobile solutions."

The name Sahara is widely associated with the development of sport, including soccer, cricket, rugby and motorsport. This is considered a significant area of business development by the company.

As a result of hard work, commitment and unwavering dedication to its brand, Sahara has formed several strong alliances with key role players, stakeholders and representative bodies.

Most recently, Sahara announced the signing of a groundbreaking sponsorship and technology supply agreement with Mamelodi Sundowns, a top ranking soccer club competing in South Africa's Professional Soccer League.

The sponsorship is underpinned by the provision of communications infrastructure and mobile technology - including laptops, notebooks and digital lifestyle technology - and signals Sahara's commitment to the club and South African soccer in general.

Effective marketing and generating awareness are significant elements of the company's ongoing marketing campaign.

Under the direction of Gary Naidoo, appointed as Deputy Managing Director of Sahara in December 2005, the company retains a focus on a number of growing market sectors including corporate, government, digital lifestyle and mobile and wireless.
