LG's fingerprint-access PCs

LG India is set to reveal desktop PCs with fingerprint access for added security, says moneycontrol.com.

The range, called X-Protect, is aimed at the general consumer market, and LG plans to release them at the end of the month.

Also launched were a range of tablet PCs with finger-touch input, auto-sensing technology and enhanced security system.

Microsoft developing split-screen PCs

Microsoft research in India is working on the development of split-screen PCs, says Discovery News.

The software splits the computer screen in two halves, each side with its own operating system, desktop, applications, cursor and keyboard, allowing two people to share one screen and processor.

This is aimed at small business and schools to help reduce the PC costs and to save time otherwise wasted from one person working at a time.

BT's Wii style control

BT has developed a Wii style control device for notebooks, removing the need for a mouse or keyboard, says Computer active.

This control, called BT balance, enables the user to manipulate the PC by tilting or moving the machine and can be plugged in to any standard laptop or tablet PC.

The small, specially-designed adaptor has movement sensors around an accelerometre chip, which works in much the same way as the balance system in the human ear.

Portable ExpressCard remote control

SMK has developed a 23-key remote control for notebooks that can be stored in an ExpressCard slot, says EE Times Asia.

The remote control was developed in response to the increasing use of notebooks for television, DVDs and music, and would have to be as portable and durable as the notebook itself.

The company will be able to produce 500 000 units monthly starting July 2007.
