Dell announces free replacements

Dell has offered to replace the displays of nine popular notebook models after a large number of customer complaints appeared on a Web site, says TechWhack.

The problem occurred with a group of faulty screens shipped in 2005, and could result in a permanent vertical line one pixel wide on the screens, if not replaced.

Dell issued a statement saying it will replace any screen with this problem within three years of purchase, and will refund customers who have already had the problem fixed.

Samsung reveals hybrid model

Samsung announced the introduction of its new hybrid model, the MH80, combining hard disk with 256MB of OneNAND flash storage, says asia.internet.com.

Samsung claims it is 50% faster than traditional hard drives and the flash ensures lower-power operation and greater reliability because the hard drive spins less.

Samsung also says the MH80 beats flash-on-motherboard design in its own tests, and its suggested price is $299.

PCs 'unnecessary' in Indian SMEs

One million of about 2.7 million small businesses in India do not have PCs, according to a survey by Access Markets International, says Tekrati.

Forty percent of these businesses plan on investing in PCs within the next year and about 15% of the businesses that do not own PCs will opt for notebooks instead of desktop PCs.

Most of the PC-less businesses are in the wholesale and retail sector and many do not believe PCs are necessary.
