Poynting today announced two new products designed to take full advantage of the 802.11g standard, while maintaining backward compatibility with the large installed base of 802.11b (WiFi) devices.
The onboard electronics designed for long-rage outdoor use offers a variety of features like 802.1x authentication, WEP, WPA support and Web-based configuration for the installer, offering nominal data rates of 108Mbps in Turbo mode.
The low-cost ClientPoynt is provided with mounting bracketry, an integrated directional 15dBi antenna and 20m CAT5 cable with POE injector for easy installation at client premises.
The AccessPoynt is provided in a hardy weatherproof aluminium enclosure for maximum electrical shielding and environmental durability. The AccessPoynt is provided with 20m UV-stablilised, shielded CAT5 cable and an Ethernet gland for easier installation, easier on high sites and to also reduce interference to and from neighbouring installations.
It is powered over Ethernet (POE) and the POE injector is provided with the product. The installer can simply connect the AccessPoynt to a suitable antenna, e.g. a 2.45GHz sector or omni-antenna (not provided) via the external N(f) connector, plug into a wired network and power up, to deploy a reliable, long-range wireless access network for office or residential complex, game farms, or a variety of other applications.
For best results, clients or people wanting to connect to the AccessPoynt should be provided with ClientPoynt devices, which can easily provide up to 10km ranges at 5Mbps when used with a 16dBi antenna on the AccessPoynt. The AccessPoynt will also work with any 802.11b/g compliant wireless clients and can support a large number of concurrent client connections.
