French court rules against Acer

A Frenchman has won a lawsuit against computer maker Acer over a laptop he bought that came pre-loaded with Microsoft's Windows XP and other applications, says Channel Register.

Antoine Gutzwiller disputed the fact that he had no choice but to buy the EUR599 Acer notebook with Vista and software products, including Microsoft Works, PowerDVD, and Norton AV.

The court of Puteaux in France ruled that the PC giant, which is the world's third-largest computer vendor, should refund Gutzwiller EUR311.85 to cover the full cost of software loaded on his machine.

Water cools notebooks

Hitachi started manufacturing water cooling system modules for PCs and some other applications in January 2007and is further advancing the development of a water cooling system for notebook PCs as well, says Tech-On!.

Hideaki Gemma, GM of Hitachi's IT Thermal Solution Centre, says the development is not finished, although a concept model has been completed.

The system is expected to be employed for notebook PCs, with a 17 to 20-inch display, and is estimated to emerge in significant numbers around 2008.

PC Frame clears clutter

Imagination Company has released the "PC Frame", a monitor accessory which holds small pieces of paper cluttering the desktop area, according to PRWeb.

The accessory holds quick-reference lists, notes, business cards, photos, small calendars, templates, etc.

The PC Frame fits any display monitor or glare screen. It eliminates tape, clips and VELCROR commonly used on monitors.
