AT&T expands wireless links

AT&T plans to introduce wireless links in devices other than mobile phones, reports AP.com.

AT&T said Glen Lurie would head an emerging devices initiative within the company to help promote the inclusion of cellular links in computers, digital cameras, car-navigation and entertainment systems.

The initiative follows moves earlier this year by mobile service Verizon Wireless to allow any third-party device to work on its network.

Siemens unveils mobile client software

Siemens has extended its unified communications (UC) service to mobile handsets with the release of OpenScape UC Application Mobile Client software, states VOIP-news.

Downloaded to handsets, the software, which works on RIM, Symbian and Windows Mobile 6 handsets, gives mobile users access to the features of Siemens' OpenScape platform.

UC makes multiple methods of communication, such as voice calling, instant messaging and e-mail, accessible through a single interface.

Digifriends to offer WiMax device

Digifriends and NextWave Wireless announced the development of the M3, a WiMax-enabled mobile Internet device (MID), says Marketwatch.

The device will be powered by NextWave's NW2000 WiMax chipset and is expected to debut in 2009.

The MID will offer new mobile multimedia features to the global users by using WiMax to deliver higher-speed access to next-generation content and services.
