Top international law firm Taylor Wessing turns to Mimecast to save money, increase control and keep a full forensic trail of all e-mail traffic

Johannesburg, 26 Nov 2007

Leading international law firm Taylor Wessing has chosen Mimecast`s Web-based unified e-mail management service to store and manage internal and external e-mails for 1 200 users in its British, French, German and Belgian offices.

The firm originally opted to move to the Web-based service eighteen months ago and was so pleased with the service that it has just upgraded it to handle archival of e-mail communications for a 10-year period.

"The original decision to move to the Mimecast software as a service (SaaS) model was taken because no other vendor could offer the combination of e-mail security with business continuity to deliver always-on e-mail in a single vendor solution," commented Tim Hyman, head of IT operations in the UK for Taylor Wessing.

"Providing our clients with 24x7 continuous contact via e-mail is fundamental to our business. The Mimecast service enabled us to continue to communicate by e-mail, even in power outages or server downtime - whether planned or unexpected."

The recent decision to replace a specialist archival server with the Web-based Mimecast archival service allows the firm to further consolidate the number of suppliers and servers for e-mail storage, security and continuity to just one, in a solution that is all Mimecast patented, wholly-owned technology. The legal firm has been able to consolidate all of its e-mail storage, security and continuity requirements with one vendor, conferring significant cost savings both in on-site hardware, software and also maintenance.

Another factor for Taylor Wessing was that Mimecast was able to capture all the forensic data about the transmission of e-mails that is necessary to be admissible as evidence in court in a manner that is completely tamper-proof.

"The incumbent archival server was originally due to last for five years but, due to the magnitude and growth of e-mail traffic, we have outgrown it in just two years," added Hyman. "The Mimecast system allows us to offload all the hassle of capacity planning for the next 10 years of storage without sacrificing any of the control; as we can search, retrieve and manage all e-mails from our desktop."

"With our `discovery` capabilities, our inherent business continuity philosophy and a solution that tacitly includes a `storage on demand` capability, it`s not surprising that one in four of the Top 100 law firms in the UK are now using Mimecast`s online e-mail archiving service," concluded Garth Wittles, MD of Mimecast SA.
