New e-recruitment site goes live

A new online recruitment Web site with backing from both Dimension Data and Adcorp Holdings has been launched in Cape Town. CareerJunction aims to link jobseekers with over 40 employment agencies on the Internet.

The company`s MD Kris Jarzebowski says that CareerJunction does not only focus on IT recruitment. "We believe that although IT is important, the biggest growth opportunity in the online recruitment arena lies outside of IT."

This is supported in a recent article published in Fortune Magazine. "Some 65% of e-candidates worldwide are non-technical people looking for employment in management, government, engineering and banking positions to name a few."

He adds that jobs on the Internet are not only limited to specific levels or categories. "Senior management positions are being advertised alongside secretarial positions. If your plum job exists, you`re as likely to find it on the Web as anywhere."

Apart from the job listing function, CareerJunction also aims to develop an online careers community through a section on the site called CareerCafe. This section contains a variety of job-related information and services in 13 different categories including career guidance, training services, tradeshow and conference information, and online book purchases.

Jarzebowski highlights one of the sections called the CareerExpo, which he believes should be of particular interest to matriculants or people wanting to change their careers. "We list the various job industries in SA, such as TV and film, nursing, banking or IT. Under each industry we have a list of the different job titles with duties and responsibilities as well as a list of educational institutions where you can enrol."

One of the goals is to soon have enrolment forms for many of these institutions available online.

"The key of e-recruitment lies in the fact that a jobseeker can do everything on one medium, from looking for a job, applying and setting up that first interview. There is no need to switch to another medium, as is the case when using print media. After spotting an advert you need to use phone, fax machine and/or Internet to make contact and send your CV."

He adds that in today`s fast moving world, people want all the information in one place. "When you want to buy something, you go to Sandton City or Cavendish Square and you know you will find what you`re looking for. You don`t drive to 10 different little shops on the side of the road. So it is with the Internet. If you want something you want to go to a hub where you can get all the information in one go.

"CareerJunction aims to become that hub for anyone who`s interested in his or her career. It is important for individuals to be aware that they have to learn to manage their own careers. Gone are the days that you stay with one company for life. In today`s competitive market you need to learn to sell yourself. That is where we come in."
