Online learning: Oracle reaches first milestone

Johannesburg, 05 Nov 2002

Oracle Corporation has reached an industry milestone by helping to provide online learning and training to more than 300 000 users worldwide through its iLearning course management service.

Oracle`s iLearning service also enable employers to track and accredit workforce compliance, which is becoming increasingly relevant with the increased emphasis on good corporate governance, says Wynand du Plessis, director of Oracle University in SA.

"As corporate accountability issues become more important for corporations to address, the need for employers to prove of their workforce is growing," he says.

Du Plessis notes that the online learning concept is ideally suited to South African corporations that often have diverse learning requirements in geographically dispersed locations.

"Oracle`s iLearning service enables users to access more than 15 000 course topics a day," he notes. "Customers of all sizes and industries are increasingly turning to Oracle for their learning management needs over other best of breed players because of Oracle`s ease of interoperability with Oracle Human Resource Systems and third-party content providers."

Offered as an integrated component of the Oracle E-Business Suite or as a standalone module, Oracle iLearning is an enterprise learning management system (LMS) that is said to provide a complete infrastructure for organisations to manage, deliver and track training participation of employees, customers, and in both online and classroom-based environments.

Oracle iLearning may be installed at the customer`s site, used as a subscription service or delivered as an outsourced service, eliminating the need for complex installation and ongoing software maintenance.
