UUNET SA introduces Load Balancing solutions, increasing multiple server performance

"As an organisation grows, so too does its demand for increased and reliable infrastructure mechanisms," says Mike Bruyns-Haylett, access product manager at UUNET SA.

"Traditionally, in these circumstances, organisations have two possible options to improve performance, either to invest in new hardware or the second option, to optimise existing infrastructure. The latter is not only the more cost-effective route, but with the correct expertise and solution implementation, will be the more efficient choice."

Therefore, UUNET SA recently introduced its Load Balancing solution to the local market, which allows customers to reach increased levels of availability on their networks, by enhancing the performance and even distribution of traffic flow among a customer`s servers.

This solution was specifically developed to prevent the congestion of one server while the others remain idle, optimising a customer`s existing hardware infrastructure through improved rapid response times of applications over the network, enhancing business efficiency processes.

UUNET SA`s Load Balancing solution can be implemented across a wide spectrum of scenarios creating a holistic solution and viewpoint for customers.

This spectrum includes:

* Web servers, which will enable the necessary degree of availability and scalability to run multiple Web, mail and DNS servers.

* These solutions will cater for single hosted environments and across geographically distributed sites.

* Multi-homing enables seamless load balance capabilities between as many as 100 Internet service provider (ISP) connections and are available in both BGP and non-BGP environments.

* Content inspection services load balancing enables e-mail content devices and anti-virus servers to be balanced at all times.

* Caching devices.

* Firewalls - will balance the firewalls to achieve the highest levels of redundancy, availability, scalability and functionality possible.

* SSL acceleration will enable the creation of a highly scalable and effective security solution by offloading SSL encryption and decryption services from Web servers. Companies employing e-commerce technologies or having mass volume secure login requests will find this solution particularly beneficial.

Business efficiency has become a key element in today`s competitive environment. "For most organisations, improving hardware while reducing costs and improving productivity is virtually unheard of and of course key in an organisation`s strategy and value to customers. By implementing a Load Balancing solution, organisations will obtain this very efficiency and optimisation," concludes Bruyns-Haylett.
