Kahuna Mobility Solutions and iTouch have launched a competitions portal, luckyme.co.za, in which entrants enter competitions via premium SMS.

Willem Gous, director of Kahuna Mobility Solutions, says the portal provides the ideal way to measure the effectiveness of a marketing campaign.

"When the user enters a competition, they are required to fill in their age, gender and the province in which they live. The client is then sent weekly updates with hour-by-hour stats profiling the type of people that entered the competition.

"Additional marketing is only sent to entrants` cellphones if they have opted in for further information in line with Kahuna`s strict anti-spam policy."

Gous says that unlike TV or print competitions, luckyme.co.za gives clients the opportunity to educate users about their products and involve them more.

"Clients can choose to have entrants click through to their Web site where they can learn more about the company`s products and find the answer to the question for the competition. In addition, further options can be given to the user in the return SMS for them to subscribe, should they so choose."

Gous says the competition is also cost-effective for advertisers, with a basic competition starting at R1 000.

The cellular short code for luckyme.co.za is 33034 and responding via SMS will cost the entrant R1.50. The site currently only caters for MTN and Vodacom users, although Gous says Cell C is in the process of putting the necessary technology in place.
