IT law firm Buys Inc has launched a cyberlaw Web site offering legal information in five languages.

The site includes information on legislation, possible pitfalls and court cases relating to IT law. Buys Inc MD Reinhardt Buys says six months of scientific research and focus group input went into creating the site, which offers as much information as possible and includes 216 hyperlinks and 109 downloads.

Buys says the site aims to educate companies and individuals. "Cyberlaw is a fairly new branch of the law. Unlike more traditional legal matters, cyberlawyers need to educate their clients about technology, the law and potential liability in an accessible and clear manner, guarding against the use of too much technical or legal phrases and concepts."

Users can also download free software applications such as virus scanners, download accelerators, content readers and media players. The site can be viewed in English, German, French, Italian and Spanish.

A second version of the site to be launched later this year will include weblogs, downloadable electronic courses, SMS news and weekly topic-based chat rooms.
