ICASA mum on ADSL pricing

Despite indications that the Independent Communications Authority of SA (ICASA) would release information on its new ADSL pricing regulations today, the authority is keeping the industry in suspense.

ITWeb could not speak to ICASA councillor Mamodupi Mohala in depth this morning, as she was in a meeting.

She said yesterday the new regulations have been formalised, but they could not be released until she had met once more with ICASA chairman Paris Mashile.

The issue has sparked interest from industry players and watchers, eager to see if the regulations will have a material impact on the costs of Telkom`s ADSL Internet service.

At the three-day public hearings into ADSL pricing in May, ICASA members listened to submissions from industry players, with many people calling for a scrapping of the monthly access fees.

Mohala, and other members of ICASA involved in the deliberations, have over the past few weeks refused to be drawn into speculation as to what the decisions would be.

ITWeb will publish the findings as soon as ICASA releases them.
