Platformity today announced, after much research and several abortive attempts, that it has found an anti-spam solution called MailStripper that is able to be run at ISP level, but still deliver the control needed for any organisation or user set-up.
The system has many advanced anti-spam mechanisms that all work in tandem to identify and stop spam.
"Platformity configures the software on a per domain or on a per user set-up and redirects the mail to a certain 'stream'," commented Julian Swart, MD of Platformity.
"A stream is a set of rules that is unique to a client and is able to be customised on a rules and features basis. However, as no more one size fits all, a company can have a single stream, if they wish the rules to apply to all staff equally, or it can be a stream for each department, or even each user. The complete user/rule set-up is done via the customer's own Web interface.
"The software has the ability to remove non-work-type attachments, eg MP3, mpegs or gifs, which can be either quarantined or deleted," continued Swart. "Even so, the end-user recipient is still informed of the missing attachment and possible recovery processes that may be available. Rules to either strip and/or delete certain attachments, or to strip and hold certain attachments, prevent a large amount of user's personal junk mail, jokes, etc, entering into the work network. Before an e-mail is accepted for a domain, a check is undertaken with the server to verify that the recipients e-mail address is a valid one."
"Platformity have deployed appropriate hardware to perform these tasks," concluded Swart. "Our system includes full failover, and, in the event of a major system failure, e-mails will be delivered without been scanned, but will include in them a banner in the subject line indicating such a situation."
Platformity has introduced the above product free of charge to all its leased line and hosted clients. The free service offers a domain-wide catchall account that allows its clients to immediately take control of their e-mail. Companies may upgrade to per user/per department rules at a small additional cost.
