ADSL boosts online spend

Johannesburg, 28 Feb 2007

eBucks members bought goods and services worth a record R46 million during the festive season, says FirstRand Bank's customer loyalty reward programme.

eBucks CEO Lezanne Human attributes a large part of this growth to a proliferation of broadband Internet services, which she says has led to an increase in activity on the eBucks shopping site.

Human says in the 2006 festive season, eBucks travel enjoyed growth of 23% compared with the 2005 festive season. She says this trend has continued into 2007, with a 48% year-on-year increase in eBucks travel revenue in January.

According to Human, airline ticket bookings are still the most popular eBucks travel items, but accommodation, car rentals and holiday packages are becoming increasingly popular.

Human notes that during the 2006 financial year, the spend-to-earn ratio grew to over 70%, and the total eBucks allocated since inception grew to over R800 million in January 2007.
