Internet Solutions (IS), a leading converged communications services provider, is about to upgrade its international bandwidth to 2Gbps (gigabits per second), providing faster connectivity than ever before to IS customers.
Says Alan Bacher, Business Unit Manager - Access Solutions at IS: "Having increased our international bandwidth by 843Mbps over the last 12 months, and with current bandwidth at over 1.7Gbps, we need to keep ahead of demand. We pride ourselves on providing customers with as much resilience as possible and to this end land our bandwidth in our Cape Town and two Johannesburg points of presence (PoPs) located in Rosebank and Bryanston."
In addition, IS terminates its international links with PoPs in London, New York and Hong Kong with numerous service providers to mitigate any risk of a single point of failure.
"Peering is in place at the London Internet Exchange, New York Internet Exchange and Hong Kong Internet Exchange to enable our customers a more direct route to their desired international internet destinations.
"We have also started to upgrade our international transit links to 1Gbps as well as our links between London and New York to 4 x 155Mbps to accommodate the extra international bandwidth. In addition, the undersea SAT3, SAT2 and SAFE cables are utilised, together with satellite access mediums to connect to the rest of the world," Bacher concludes.
