ProCurve restructures

ProCurve Networking has restructured globally and regionally into specialised marketing divisions for the enterprise and non-enterprise markets.

"We have been reorganising for months into teams to provide dedicated support for these two distinct markets, but names for the new divisions were announced only in recent weeks with little fanfare," says Jack Gauthreaux, ProCurve's France-based regional business manager.

The "solutions business" will service the fast-growing high-end enterprise market to drive new growth, while the "commercial business" will concentrate on the needs of small and medium businesses (SMBs), which is where ProCurve has traditionally focused, says Gauthreaux.

"The recent release of new products for this market proves that ProCurve's expansion into the enterprise market has not detracted from its dedication to small business," says Lorna Hardie, ProCurve's local business unit manager.

SMB demands

Hardie says three new series of ProCurve network switches are aimed at meeting the SMB market demand for a wider choice of secure, cost-effective and standards-based products that are easy to install and maintain.

According to Gauthreaux, the demand for standards-based networking equipment has increased alongside the demand for IP-based telephony. Hardie says interoperability is also important for equipment redeployment and network integration necessitated by mergers and acquisitions.

ProCurve's strategy for maintaining and growing its share of the SMB market rests on several key elements.

"A single management platform across the product set, easy scalability and competitive warrantee are expected to be key drivers in the high dynamic SMB market," says Hardie.

Gauthreaux agrees, adding that ProCurve's adaptive edge architecture also does not require an expensive central networking device because security and other functionality are not concentrated at the core.
