Bytes tackles service provider market with launch of BytesNet

Managed private network and VPN offerings for business from Bytes.

Johannesburg, 26 Jul 2007

Bytes Systems Integration has today announced the launch of its next-generation multi-service network platform offering, BytesNet.

Working with strategic partner MTN Network Solutions, BytesNet will provide businesses with an alternative to existing outsourced network and bandwidth service providers.

Based on a next-generation virtual private network (VPN) framework, the BytesNet network infrastructure will offer clients the ability to make use of the latest in Multiprotocol Label Switching (MPLS) for faster and more reliable access to their network, moving away from the old generation VPN connectivity of frame relay.

"Connectivity, bandwidth, speed and reliability are things we expect our day-to-day network to provide," says Gary Lailvaux, divisional managing director at Bytes SI ATS.

"The real opportunity once on this platform, is to bolt on additional services to your network where quality of service (QoS) and security are key. This will allow our customers to select their boutique of business solutions, including secure, mobile triple play services, and to deliver this, you need a platform which supports this quality, and in short runs over MPLS. It is against this backdrop and based on these needs of our clients that we have launched BytesNet."

Bytes already services a number of South Africa's top blue chip companies' networking needs. The launch of BytesNet completes the cycle, enabling the company to provide end-to-end services, from service provider to physical infrastructure.

Providing scalability and flexibility across multiple access technologies, BytesNet will be provided through collaboration of best of breed strategic partnerships. Albeit there are other networks of this nature in the market today, BytesNet stands apart from competitors in that it is a fully supported, external, integrated MPLS-based VPN solution, including managed services, which are able to offer customers significant cost savings.

"It is all about convergence, and while the word itself has lost meaning, true convergence can really be evidenced through the marriage of multiple data and voice services, and applications, across a robust and stable network," adds Patrick Hastings, divisional director at Bytes SI ATS. "This is then packaged in a solution which is affordable to the customer. The BytesNet backbone provides this stability while marrying the traditional fragile data environment with a more robust voice network."

"MTN NS is very excited by this new strategic partnership, and the focus and commitment which BytesNet is making. We believe that by merging the strengths of the two companies, we can jointly deliver the full range of services to corporates wishing to rationalise their vendors to a single suppler of a converged solution - embracing fixed and mobile voice, data, hosting, and full ICT support," says Mike Brierley, CEO of MTN Network Solutions.

BytesNet comprises a fully-integrated MPLS Network, including Internet, and has one of the widest footprints with 17 points of presence in the SADC region. The network is designed for high availability, reliability, and resilience with QoS from the client edge router, and underpinned by the "dual connect" deployment methodology, creating one shared network infrastructure - converging voice, video and data, which results in substantially reduced costs.

Advantages of using BytesNet include:

* Dual connection - between customer branches offering added resilience.
* Quality of service - maintained over all links, ensures optimal line use.
* One Internet breakout - for the entire VPN offering added security and availability to all branches.
* One shared network infrastructure - converging voice, video and data for reduced costs.
* Un-contended and unshaped VPN - connections into the VPN offer maximum connectivity.
* ICT networking - anywhere, anytime VPN services from BytesNet.
* World-Class Hosting - a natural extension of our offering providing telco-grade commercial hosting facilities.

Customers taking advantage of the BytesNet solution will be able to tap into a number of other network offerings provided by Bytes. These include network services; storage, server and network integration; security; mobility; converged communications; enterprise content management; and application integration and management.

"Clients have been pushing us to embrace this for years as they have sought a single service provider for their networking needs. With BytesNet we are finally answering that call," ends Lailvaux.
