Training company Laragh Courseware has launched Effective Presentations with PowerPoint, a new e-learning course designed to help the novice and the experienced PowerPoint user alike to hone their presentation skills.
Laragh says Effective Presentations with PowerPoint stands apart from many other PowerPoint training courses because it focuses on the critical issue of "connecting with the audience".
"Much PowerPoint training only explains the mechanics of how to add and manipulate text and graphic content using the software," says Virginia Lundstrom-Ndibongo of Laragh Courseware. However, this offering instructs users on how to assemble the components of good communication and on the delivery of their messages to the audience in a professional, easily understood manner.
"For example, it examines strategies for planning, preparing, rehearsing and presenting a message. It also addresses essential design considerations such as the appropriate use of graphic and audio-visual elements."
Effective Presentations with PowerPoint provides a map of its modular course content that enables users to "jump-in" directly to the instructional material at any point and navigate through it, notes Lundstrom-Ndibongo.
"Users can learn about creating web presentations - the last unit or object of learning on the course - and then move on to creating special effects for presentations, which is a topic addressed in an earlier module.
"The information is comprehensive and each learning object includes a realistic target of what users should be able to perform once they have completed it," she adds.
The learning objects each contain a summary of the material covered and questions that help users remember what they have learnt. The course also provides simulated exercises that give users an insight into various options for presentations.
The couseware requires a PC with Windows (95, 98, NT, 2000, or XP) and access to a CD-ROM drive.
