ASYST International SA, the sole distributor for Access Accounts in southern Africa and the leading enterprise partner for Crystal Decisions in SA, today announced that Crystal Decisions has released Crystal Reports 9.
Functional enhancements to the core reporting engine include better SQL control, Unicode support, zero-client viewers, guided navigation, formula Wizards, and custom functions (the ability to extract business logic from formulas for reuse across multiple reports).
Most significantly, the new version is designed to addresses key requirements in the developer community and supports all three major development environments; namely Java (J2EE), .NET, and COM. New functionality aimed specifically at developers includes Report Application Server (RAS), for allowing Web developers to tightly integrate reporting into enterprise Web applications for end-users to view, interact with and modify reports at runtime; Report Parts, to integrate `parts` of report content into business workflow so end-users can access information via wireless devices, portals and Microsoft Office documents; and Component Re-use, to let developers share and reuse existing reporting components across multiple reports for single point updating, and efficient report development and integration.
Additionally, version 9 also provides enhanced integration with the Crystal Enterprise information delivery platform to tap into its management, scheduling, security, scalability and fault tolerance capabilities.
"Release 9 is the most important release since version 5, commented Paul Marketos, MD of ASYST International SA. "It is specifically addressing the demand for improved productivity and high efficiency in report creation, together with the need for tight integration of reporting into enterprise Web applications and the requirement for dynamic end-user access, interaction and modification."
Crystal Reports 9 is available in four editions: Standard, Professional, Developer, and Advanced. Special upgrade pricing is available for existing customers.
