SMS from Outlook

Johannesburg, 13 May 2003

General Wireless, a provider of mobile messaging products, has signed an agreement with Microsoft, which will put an SMS option on Outlook, the company says.

The General Wireless product, SMS Executive, will be included in Microsoft Office.

Sweden is the first market where Microsoft and General Wireless will work together, the company states, but the agreement is global and can "easily be extended to other markets". Ireland customers of O2, a telecoms operator, also offer the service from General Wireless.

"We are happy to participate with Microsoft. We are expecting a good success in the Swedish market with its high penetration of mobile phones and Internet, but we also hope to be able to leverage on Microsoft`s global presence," says Anders Hardebring, CEO of General Wireless.

"SMS Executive adds value to Microsoft Office and to our customers and we look forward to working with General Wireless," says Robert H"agg, product manager for Microsoft Office.

According to the companies, it is easy to use existing contacts and distribution lists in Outlook and Exchange to send SMS messages. The user can also receive SMS reminders from calendar appointments and high priority e-mails.
