SARS`s new e@syfile PAYE software is available free to South African employers from SARS offices countrywide.
In a press conference at its Sunninghill headquarters yesterday, SARS commissioner Pravin Gordhan said the South African income tax system has entered the second of the three phases designed to simplify the process of filling out tax returns, in which e@syfile PAYE plays a key role.
The new e@syfile PAYE software, according to Gordhan, "ensures a level playing field".
The software has been designed to enable employers to provide accurate PAYE information on their employees by standardising the format in which information is submitted.
This information can then be easily and securely communicated to SARS via the Internet, saved to CD and delivered, or printed out ready to be mailed. This enables SARS to send out pre-populated tax return forms to taxpayers which already contain income earned figures.
Yesterday marked the beginning of a 60-day period in which employers are required to complete and submit PAYE information on all employees to SARS, in preparation for individual filing season which begins on 1 September. Companies that do not comply in time face stiff penalties, warns SAS.
The free CD contains all the software necessary to get started, as well as instructional videos hosted by television educator, William Smith. SARS says the videos are clear, easy to follow and are designed to answer most questions that may occur to new users.
Future versions of e@syfile PAYE for individuals and companies are planned and will be made available later this year.
