Beauty, simplicity of powerful SOA Gateway unleashed in SA

Demonstrated for the first time in South Africa at Bateleur Software, in December, SOA Gateway is a powerful new technology that radically reduces the time and risk involved with traditional integration projects.

With data integration remaining the Achilles heel of current SOA initiatives, Risaris (http://www.risaris.com) in Ireland developed SOA Gateway (http://www.soagateway.com) to empower organisations to overcome this weakness, enabling them to unleash the power of their legacy data and information across multiple platforms.

Benefits include 90% less custom code, no need for messaging middleware, no custom server logic, no software installation on client system, and the use of standard SSL security to protect the data.

At the seminar, Risaris CEO John Power showed how the SOA Gateway supports all data sources and can be easily applied on all platforms. "It gives a single point of entry to business data and logic and integrates securely with old and new security paradigms - we haven't found anything that the SOA Gateway can't talk to," he said.

"Built from the ground up using W3C SOA standards and using the Eclipse-based configuration tool to define resources and views of those resources with simple graphical interfaces, the SOA Gateway reduces custom coding by up to 90%, as well as testing and maintenance."

SOA Gateway comes as a highly complementary tool to a well-stacked list of software solutions at sole South African distributor, Bateleur Software, and in addressing the chasm between logic and data, is unique in its simplicity, accuracy and accessibility.

Bateleur Software's chairman, Sam Selmer-Olsen, added: "Risaris' SOA Gateway has been developed to remove anywhere from 70% to 90% of the effort and risk associated with traditional integration projects irrespective of the chosen architecture - it allows IT executives to dramatically reduce the time, complexity and cost of integration projects while maintaining secure control of their core assets.” "If you have a requirement to access core data assets or business logic in weeks not months, to cost justify integration projects and reduce integration costs by up to 35%; if you need to deliver complex integration projects by up to 40% faster and significantly reduce unit and integration testing while providing end-to-end secure access to your IT assets, then SOA Gateway is your solution," continued Power.

The Gateway is single-tiered, runs local to data and business logic, interfaces directly with resources, focuses on standard SOA-based integration, and is platform, database and language independent. The product exposes existing data and business logic using industry SOA standards (SOAP, WSDL and REST) and is built on the open source Apache frame work, using proven and trusted open source tools and delivers enterprise information and data integration capability using a simple URL approach.

An endorsement of the new software comes from Dick Waite, Senior R&D Consultant at Software AG, who said: "Access to existing data and business logic on any existing platform can be achieved within days not months."

Power's demonstration of Gateway showed how the software provides a secure single point of data entry across all channels and business applications, reduces data and process duplication across the enterprise and how the Web Service enables core data and information assets, bringing life to core assets.

Concluded Selmer-Olsen: "SOA Gateway allows programmers to focus on creating valuable business applications instead of accessing the existing core assets, it allows them to re-use integration services from multiple technologies and ensure delivery times are met, reducing integration costs by 35% or more. In today's environment, it is a very valuable tool indeed."
