ITWeb is set to host the software-as-a-service (SaaS) Conference on 4 August at Gallagher Estate in Midrand.

The conference will look at the opportunities as well as the risks involved in adopting SaaS in SA.

The event will also highlight the factors that need to be considered when implementing SaaS and cloud computing.

Various industry experts will speak at the event, including Steven Ambrose, MD of World Wide Worx; Richard Firth, chairman and CEO of MIP; Pankaj Pema, Virtualbox MD; Gerhard van Vuuren, operations director at Goldfields; Maxwell Ramutla, CEO of Afrovation; Barry Gill, product development specialist at Mimecast; and Steve Loubser, business unit executive for hosting at GijimaAst.

SaaS is receiving a lot of interest from companies in the global financial crisis, as SaaS aims to help businesses cut costs and improve efficiencies.

Last year, Gartner predicted SaaS revenue in the enterprise application markets would surpass $6.4 billion (R52.8 billion), a 27% increase from 2007 revenue. The research firm said this market is expected to more than double, with SaaS revenue reaching $14.8 billion (R122 billion) in 2012.
