Jahia encourages open source contributions

One of the hardest things to create in open source software is a project that attracts significant outside development contributions, according to Cnet.

While Mozilla can count on 40% of its development deriving from non-Mozilla sources, most open source projects are lucky to get 4% from outside contributors - or 0.04%.

But Jahia, an open source Web content management vendor that competes with proprietary solutions like Vignette (OpenText) and Interwoven (Autonomy), has set up a rewards programme to encourage contributions. It offers significant discounts on a commercial subscription in exchange for significant contributions to the Jahia code base.

SourceForge acquires Ohloh

SourceForge, a tech news and e-commerce network has acquired Ohloh, a social network for developers and directory of open source projects, reports TechCrunch.

The amount of the deal has not been disclosed at this moment.

SourceForge owns and operates a number of tech media Web sites, including SourceForge.net, a centralised location for software developers to manage open source software development.

Infobright releases enterprise database

Infobright, the open source data warehousing company, has released Infobright Enterprise Edition for Windows, report TMCnet.

The company earlier this year released its open source Infobright Community Edition on Windows in response to a high volume of requests from its open source user community.

“Since we released ICE for Windows in early March, it has represented more than 42% of our downloads, confirming the demand in the community for a Windows version of Infobright's simple, scalable and low-cost analytic database,” says Susan Davis, vice-president, marketing and product management at Infobright.
