MTN GPRS down

MTN users report that they have been unable to access the Internet via their mobile devices for most of the weekend after there were problems with the MTN network. The GPRS service is still down.

While MTN has not commented on the issue yet, a letter from MTN support states that the Service GPRS Support Node, which assigns an IP address to a device connecting to the network, is giving problems, resulting in the service being down for all of Friday and much of the weekend.

However, this only affects the Internet Access Point Name (APN). Private and corporate APNs are not affected by this problem. Ericsson is testing and implementing new equipment and patches in the radius server, the letter said.

MTN was unavailable for comment at the time of publication.
