The Minister of Communications, Ivy Matsepe-Casaburri, has announced that there will only be two bidders for the unallocated 26% share of the second national operator (SNO).

Last week, the Department of Communications (DoC) released the names of two of the three candidates for the stake in the SNO, with the third to be announced at a later date.

However, the minister indicated today that the third, unnamed bidder did not meet the DoC`s agreed deadline, which means that only the two original bidders, namely Old Mutual Asset Managers and Tata Africa Holdings (SA) go into the hat for the remaining percentage of the SNO.

According to Matsepe-Casaburri, she met with the two applicants yesterday and has since introduced them to the other stakeholders in the SNO.

No date has yet been given for a DoC decision on which of the two bidders will be awarded the 26% stake, as the entire process has been a closed affair.
