ICASA, not Telkom, to discuss price controls

Johannesburg, 19 Nov 2004

Telkom, which recently filed its proposed new tariffs for 2005 with the Independent Communications Authority of SA (ICASA), claims that certain media reports are giving the wrong impression regarding the public hearings on this subject.

Company spokesman Ravin Maharaj says some reports have created the impression that Telkom itself is holding public hearings into its new tariff structure.

"This is not the case, as it is ICASA that has called for comment from the public on its discussion document 2004 on price control reviews," he says.

"As far as I am aware, the authority is currently seeking comment from the industry and will hold public hearings sometime next month."

ICASA`s deadline for comments is 7 December, and the public hearings will take place at the regulator`s offices in Pinmill Farm, Sandton on 13 and 14 December.

The consultation documents on the subject and the draft PSTS price cap regulations are available at www.icasa.org.za or they can be obtained from the ICASA library at Pinmill Farm, 164 Katherine Street, Sandton.
