SA mobility under the spotlight

The current and future shape of mobile and wireless technologies in SA will be the focus of the Mobility 2005 conference on 8 and 9 June at the FNB Conference Centre in Sandton.

The conference represents the conclusion of the year-long Mobility 2005 research project conducted by World Wide Worx.

The research was conducted in six phases, and the results of the sixth phase, "The Impact of Mobile and Wireless Technology on the South African Consumer", will be announced at the conference on 9 June.

The conference will feature a number of industry players, including Joe Mjwara, deputy director-general in the Department of Communications and chairman of the ICT empowerment charter steering committee. Mjwara will provide both a government and black economic empowerment perspective on the future of the telecommunications sector.

Other speakers include Cell C marketing head Simon Camerer, who will look at the future of mobile communications in SA. FNB mobile and transact solutions head Len Pienaar will discuss the relevance of SMS in the banking industry, while Sentech MyWireless product manager Winston Smith will aid delegates in understanding 3G technology.

World Wide Worx MD Arthur Goldstuck will provide an overview and headline findings of the Mobility 2005 research.
