Autopage Cellular has launched a mobile handset and tracking device for small children.

The Safety Pal is designed for children between the ages of four and nine. Since it is limited to only five pre-programmable numbers, the phone allows parents to control the costs of outgoing calls, while being able to reach the child at all times, says Autopage Cellular MD, Stephen Blewett.

The device, says Blewett, is one of the value-adds the service provider is offering this festive season.

"This handset is available on subscription on MyChoice Top-Up on a two year contract at an additional R49 per month,` says Blewett.

"We are looking at bundling more 'look for me` products with our technology. The safety of children is very high on our priority list and products like these go a long way towards ensuring that technology is further used to make our lives that much easier," he explains.

The package includes a Safety Pal membership, which allows parents to register their child`s details with the South African Centre for Missing and Exploited Children (SACMEC), which will release the information to the authorities in the event of a missing child.

A wearable info card is also supplied to record a child`s personal details, medical data and emergency contacts.
