The Phone House, part of UK-based telecoms firm The Carphone Warehouse, wants to recruit 500 call centre advisors in Johannesburg and Cape Town.

The Phone House is investing R200 million in new call centres in SA to serve customers of its UK TalkTalk broadband business and is offering full-time permanent positions.

Of the 500 call centre advisors, 260 will be based in Johannesburg and the rest will be in Cape Town. The company is looking for candidates who have a clear communication style, are PC literate and have experience in a customer service environment.

The Johannesburg call centre, run by Merchants, a Dimension Data company, went live on Friday with about 20 call centre advisors.

The centre is located at the Dimension Data Campus in Bryanston, but will move to downtown Johannesburg later in the year.

Merchants has partnered with recruitment agency Quest to assist with the recruitment of call centre advisors for The Phone House.

Andrew McNair, a solutions architect at Merchants, says Quest has already recruited about 60 possible call centre advisors who are being trained by Merchants.

The Cape Town centre, managed in-house by The Phone House, will open in April and will be located in Claremont.

Tracey Ellison, GM of Emmanuels International, which is managing recruitment in Cape Town, says the recruitment is an ongoing process, and will continue until the end of 2006.
